Particularly when you are pursuing a busy job it can be hard to squeeze your workout into your daily/weekly schedule.

Therefore, pay attention to the next few lines where I have listed some great motivational quotes about fitness that should help you stay motivated.

Feel free to take a photo of the most inspiring quote and save it as your smartphone background.

By doing that, you will get reminded every time you look at your smartphone which hopefully motivates you to start your next workout…and the next…and the next…

Motivational Fitness Quote #1

“Life is not about perfection. It’s about progress. (…)”
― Jillian Michaels, health & wellness expert

When starting to workout, many of us think that they already have to be good at it from the very beginning.

They get disappointed by their shape when they notice how hard it feels to complete a 30 minute run without a break or when lifting some barbells.

The good news is: That this is totally normal.

Nobody can start doing something and be an expert right away.

In the context of fitness, you need to understand that it is not about getting the most perfect body one can imagine.

It is about making progress from the state you are in.

Automatically, you will see improvements when consistently following your workout routine which will then motivate you to keep pushing to the next level.

Motivational Fitness Quote #2

“ Get comfortable with being uncomfortable!”
― Jillian Michaels, health & wellness expert

Getting fit is not easy and it requires you to get into conditions that feel uncomfortable.

You will need to push your limits in order to reach the next level of your performance.

If you are not ready for that, you will most likely not achieve your goal of getting into a better shape.

Motivational Fitness Quote #3

“It is never too late to start taking care of the body you have.”
― Tobe Hanson, sports injury specialist and performance coach

Working out and getting fit has nothing to do with age.

Obviously, starting a workout routine might be easier when you are younger.

But this should not hold you back to start getting in better shape when you have passed the younger ages.

Your life is long and your body needs activity to counteract biological aging.

Even when starting retirement, increasing your activity and fitness level will have a positive effect on your health.

Motivational Fitness Quote #4

“Positive thinking can be contagious. Being surrounded by winners helps you develop into a winner.”
― Arnold Schwarzenegger, bodybuilder, actor & politician

The positive vibes of people around you can have a tremendous effect on your performance.

Surrounding yourself with people who believe in you is something that pushes you forward.

However, your environment can be a two-way street which means that negative vibes can drag your performance and your motivation down.

Therefore, try not to listen to people who do not believe in you.

Motivational Fitness Quote #5

“What you’re thinking is what you’re becoming.”
― Muhammad Ali, the greatest boxer of all times

Getting in shape is related to the right mindset.

You need to set realistic goals and believe in achieving them.

In the end, imagining yourself achieving your goal is the mindset that will make you get there.

Motivational Fitness Quote #6

“Excuses don’t kill the fat, exercises do.”
― Amit Kalantri, book author

Fitness_MotivationAlmost everybody who wants to get fit but never manages to get there come up with plenty of excuses.

Some people are too busy at work.

Some people need to care of children.

Some people want to meet friends.

The truth is: I understand all the above-mentioned arguments.

But if you really want to get fit (this means that getting fit is really a priority of your life), then there is no single excuse to not work out or go for a run.

You will always find 3-4 hours per week (if not more) to dedicate to your fitness routine.

Yes, this might mean that you need to skip watching TV at night or even meeting some of your friends.

But this attitude makes the differentiation between successful and non-successful athletes.

And once you have set the priorities right, getting in shape (e.g. loosing body fat, getting stronger) is only a question of time.

Motivational Fitness Quote #7

“If you keep on eating unhealthy food then no matter how many weight loss tips you follow, you are likely to retain weight and become obese. If only you start eating healthy food, you will be pleasantly surprised how easy it is to lose weight.”
― Subodh Gupta, celebrity trainer and coach

I have included this quote because it demonstrates how important nutrition is for losing weight and getting in shape.

Changing eating habits to a more healthy and balanced nutrition can have a tremendously positive effect on your body.

Combined with the right workout routine, this is the secret to your success.

Motivational Fitness Quote #8

“It’s easier to stay in shape if you never let yourself get out of shape in the first place.”
― Bill Loguidice, book author and journalist

Personally, this is the quote that motivates me the most to workout.

My long-term goal is to stay healthy during my entire life so that I can enjoy life much more when I am getting older.

Somewhere in my head I know that if I would stop working out today that it will be super difficult to get back to the level again where I am now.

Therefore, I am dedicating multiple hours of fitness to my weekly schedule.

Motivational Fitness Quote #9

“Hike your own hike to health.”
― Harken Headers, researcher

Understanding that everybody follows an individual path in their life and in fitness is crucial.

We all get born with different genetics and prerequisites.

All of our paths develop differently over time.

Therefore, it is important to understand that you need to find your own route to success.

If starting a fitness routine is part of your route, then it doesn’t matter what other people say.

You are in the position of deciding about your individual route to success.

Motivational Fitness Quote #10

“When working out, length is not a substitute for intensity.”
― Bill Loguidice, book author and journalist

Particularly for beginners, it is important to understand that you don’t need to stay in a gym for 2 hours or that you need to achieve the 10k milestone in a run.

Training efficiently for 30 minutes will not only be great for your body but will also motivate you more than long and inefficient training sessions.

Obviously, if it feels right to increase the duration of your training, nothing should hold you back from doing so.

I just want to highlight that this is not a necessity for your fitness routine, in particular when you are just about to start exercising.

Motivational Fitness Quote #11

“I don’t count my sit-ups. I only start counting when it starts hurting because they’re the only ones that count.”
― Muhammad Ali, the greatest boxer of all times

To be fair, this statement is probably for more professional and dedicated fitness enthusiasts among us.

But I have to admit that there is some truth about what Muhammad Ali said.

Increasing performance (be it in lifting weights, running or other sports) requires the extra mile and will eventually also cause muscular and mental pain.

If you are mentally ready to go all-in and push through to the last reps, the payoff for your commitment will multiply.

Motivational Fitness Quote #12

“From the bodybuilding days on, I learned that everything is reps and mileage. The more miles you ski, the better a skier you become; the more reps you do, the better your body.”
― Arnold Schwarzenegger, bodybuilder, actor & politician

It is all about the consistency of your training.Fitness_Motivation

Nobody started out to be an expert.

Almost always it takes hard work and training effort to reach your targets.

Obviously, this does also account for you individual fitness or running routine.

Get up, go out there and start to exercise.

Eventually you will see the results of the investment you have made throughout the past weeks and months.

Motivational Fitness Quote #13

“(…) Eating Right + Knowing How to Workout + Consistency = Success”
― Bill Loguidice, book author and journalist

This is probably the summary of “How to get fit”.

Combining a consistent workout with the right nutrition is the key to success.

Therefore, stay motivated, keep working out and observe how your body transforms over time.

  1. Thanks for these quotes. I found some of them to be pretty helpful. I’ve been struggling with my weight all my life and just can’t seem to find motivation in myself to get fit. I used to be really good at it when I was younger, now it’s hard for me to get back into the swing of things.

My main concern right now is the nutrition and consistency. Do you have any tips, suggestions or advice on how to make sure you get the right nutrition? Any programs or apps or something that are really helpful when tracking what you eat?

    1. Hi,

      thanks for your comment.

  2. Partha Banerjee

    Hi Fabian,

There’s some great motivational quotes listed here.

Certainly one that rang true for me was Bill Loguidice’s quote about intensity over length, in terms of your workout.

This is a lesson it took me many years to learn. As someone who’s been working out for a lot of years, I always understood the importance of building up and making things harder, week and after week.

However, this typically meant that I was was adding more exercises and more reps to every workout, thus increasing the amount of time I was spending at the gym.

It’s only now that I realise the significance of working out smarter with intensity, as opposed to harder and for many hours.

Thank you for the timely reminder. This was a thoroughly enjoyable article. Keep up the great work.

    1. Hi Partha,

      thanks for your feedback.

I also only now realized that a intense training with resistance bands is more efficient for me as a long training with weights in the gym. So yeah, it is not about length, it is about intensity.

  3. Wow! I feel super motivated reading these inspiring quotes! Whether that’s positivity or negativity, they are both contagious. Then why not choose to stay around positive people who help you achieve and flourish. I also feel motivated to read that only start counting when it starts to hurt in exercise. As well as consistency is the key.

I read this somewhere saying something like this, ‘I want to see what happens if I don’t give up for 6 months’. I think this is also very motivational.

Thank you for charging up all up with the dose of motivation with these lovely quotes.

    Best wishes

    1. Hi Habib,

true words. I also like the attitude to not quite for at least 6 months. This is a good test to demonstrate consistency.

I am glad I could be of help.
